I wouldn't make the UI modifiable at all. However, a rehaul wouldn't hurt. I can see tons of options to take all those windows out and integrate all stuff into a HUD (jetfighter type) that can be set to different modes in a 'space' type style. T...

I worked in software development for several years myself. As a developer you do need some input from users. But in the end, you decide what is best for the product, not the people that use it. I think that basically sums it up.
